Zirconia ceramics are a ceramic material with a variety of excellent properties and play an important role in many fields.
1. Chemical composition and structure
The main component of zirconia ceramics is zirconia (ZrO₂). Pure zirconia undergoes crystal form transformation at different temperatures, and there are three crystal forms: monoclinic phase (m – ZrO₂), tetragonal phase (t – ZrO₂) and cubic phase (c – ZrO₂).
2. Performance characteristics and applications
1) High hardness and abrasion resistance
Zirconia ceramics are highly hard, second only to a few materials such as diamond and boron carbide.
2) High strength and toughness
Due to its special crystal structure and phase change toughening mechanism, zirconia ceramics have high strength and toughness.
3) Excellent corrosion resistance
Good corrosion resistance to most acids, alkalis and organic solvents.
4) Good biocompatibility
Zirconia ceramics have important applications in the biomedical field because it has good biocompatibility and does not cause an immune response in the human body.
5) High melting point and high temperature resistance
Zirconia ceramics have a high melting point of around 2715°C and are able to maintain stable physical and chemical properties at high temperatures.
